In a scene from the movie Evan Almighty, there’s this quote…
“Let me ask you something. If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?”
And I wonder… If God wants more people in our church, do we think He’s just going to create new people, or simply “pop” them here, bam! Just to have them here, or will He make the opportunity for us as a church to invite, bring, welcome people to Him through our church? Do we think that God isn’t going to use this opportunity not only to bring new people to Him, but also train the faithful?
Because if its just numbers that God is interested in, He could’ve done that already. He could just make people to attend church. There’s a song called 10,000 Angels…. It says, “He could have called 10,000 angles, to destroy the world, and set Him free (from the cross) He could have called 10,000 angels, but He died alone for you and me..” He’s God. He can do anything.
God does things on purpose. There’s a reason. You may find yourself in a season of What is going on????? He has a reason. Know that if you are looking to Him, if you are seeking Him - He is seeking you. He wants relationship with you.
Jeremiah 29:11: “'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'”
Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
